Featured Singers @ the Dresden

Tonight was another wonderful Featured Singer Night.  Brittany and Andrew sounded lovely.  Bill was on Bass.  Gordon stopped by with his trumpet and sat in with us.  We even got John up at the end of the night to sing a couple songs.  It was a busy night.  But, it was a fun one!

Jane of Dick and Jane Family Orchestra sang with Marty and Elayne this evening.  She (Jane) sounded amazing as always.  Yes, I sang a couple songs too.  As did the always lovely Adrian.  I've been around the Dresden and Marty and Elayne long enough to know they go above and beyond to support singers in Hollywood.  It was, yet, another lovely night at the Dresden because of their in-tune-ness.  They're simply entertaining...

Marty and Elayne perform @ the Dresden Tues-Saturday 9pm-1:15am
1760 N. Vermont, Los Feliz, CA.

Marty and Elayne continue to dazzle audiences with their tremendous enthusiasm, show biz finesse, and, endearing musical vigor.  They have been a huge part of the success of the Dresden room, a premiere Hollywood landmark for over sixty years.  The duo became inexorably associated with the Dresden Restaurant in 1982 after Dresden owner Carl Ferraro discovered them at the former Michael's, which was just around the block.  With a sometimes staccato-Sinatra voice, Marty drives his drum kit or upright bass while Elayne swings it with piano, synth, and/or flute if not scatting in a falsetto.  It is sheer, tight, talent - nothing like you'll see in their almost satirical appearance in the featured film Swingers.  The Dresden is lucky to have this dynamic musical duo five nights a week, along with all the talented guest musicians/singers that accompany Marty and Elayne in the Dresden lounge.

Marty and Elayne Keepin' the Hollywood Crowd Happy...

The young Hollywood crowd in the bar last night was amazing!  Every time Elayne finished with some of her keyboard mastery, or Vince played a lively bass solo, or, of course, Marty performed a song (in particular New York New York) the intimate crowd responded wildly.  Also, several guest singers stepped up to the the mic and sang with flare and gained approval of the Marty and Elayne fans...  Gordon Bash was back with his horn, and also played some bass ending the night with the Ray Charles classic "Let the Good Times Roll."  Terri and Gabriel poured amazing drinks while Rachel w/ Edith tended the crowd.  It wasn't the most packed Thursday night I've ever seen, but, it was brilliantly intimate.  In my tenure at the Dresden, I would say I have observed that's a forte of Marty and Elayne's - making it special for the individual/individuals who join us for drinks and fun.  Tomorrow night is Friday, and, everyone is welcome.  Yes, Marty and Elayne will be performing.
